, 2016_ intermedia performative installation.
Within the scope of the exhition Regarding Nicolas Calas at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
The work titled KNOTRPSELL_first_construction_by FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR, 2016 is an intermedia performative installation of a site for the interaction of more artistic media such as a sculptural installation, a text industrially woven into fabric, voice, sound and performance. This intermedia performative installation belongs to the wider body of a work-in-progress with the general working title What is to be undone.
For that work, in 2013, Vassiliea Stylianidou exported 20 multicolored bolts of fabric from the family fabric business in Thessaloniki to Munich aiming to produce/generate – through the work – a debt that is simultaneously financial, familial and artistic. Through an artistic narrative that moves in-between truth and invention, Vassiliea Stylianidou ponders with critical irony, the meaning and the construction of artistic value: in the context of the specific work-in-progress, the debt is equated with the work of art itself: the debt is the artwork, its medium and its materiality – as it is continuously being transferred from the institutional organizer to the artist, from the artist to the artwork and thence to space and also to the viewer herself. That debt, impossible to repay, is set into constant motion, becoming transformed and hybrid.
Since 2013, following several different, successive and autonomous performative installations, the twelve bolts of fabric spread/transfer and transform the debt and the value of the artwork, as they engaged every time with the new thematic sequence of the respective work. In this manner, different systems of thought and organization converse in the artwork, such as visual and poetic thinking with (made up) financial reality with the social structure of the patriarchal family, with the body (embodiment) and with sexuality. For the exhibition Regarding Nicolas Calas, Vassiliea Stylianidou constructs a poetic text that explores the question of the mutual influence between language and the body and gender identity. Using as a departure point three phrases from N. Calas’ poetry collection 16 French Poems,
Nothing is yours and your gender scares you
You will not see me any more as I am, not even in words
Nothing can stop the news item
the artist continues in her text the exploration of “what words make up the body”, by positing a series of questions and poetic positions on the constructive and performative potential of language in the possible reconstructions of the gendered body’s identity.
Following an order by the artist, the text is woven using a weaving machine.
In this performative installation are involved the text, the weaving and seven strips cut off from the twenty bolts – that have come from the artistic narrative which conjoins financial and familial debt as well as the body as a gendered system of identities.
At the same time, the text is the basis for an audio work.
The performance along with the audio work humorously conjoins transgenderism and intermediality as potentialities for performative construction and as experienced realities.
The word KNOTRPSELL in the work’s title is a made up word which the two performers do and undo for and with the viewers. In this manner, critical exploration is instigated of one or two of the many possibilities of construction and reconstruction of gender through language, following and paraphrasing what Judith Butler describes in her book Undoing Gender: «One is always “doing” with or for another, even if the other is only imaginary. What I call my “own” gender appears perhaps at times as something that I author or, indeed, own. But the terms that make up one´s own gender are, from the start, outside oneself, beyond oneself in a sociality that has no single author (and that radically contests the notion of authorship itself).»

During the opening of the exhibition NICE! An exhibition and a book I presented the performative sound/video installation with the title “FA®THER_ERRATIC PATTERNS. By FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR“.
In the specific work the FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR_agents are the following:
Performers: Polyxeni Angelidou (dancer, choreographer) Vassiliea Stylianidou.
Music: Vassiliea Stylianidou, Lorenz Erdmann
Sound editing, music arrangement assistant and mastering: Lorenz Erdmann
Design and execution of performative uniform: Vassiliea and Despina Stylianidou
Weaving of text into fabric using a knitting machine: Eftichios Agathonikos
Translation: Konstantin Konstantine Matsoukas
Proof-reader: Christina Spyropoulou
Documentation: Marigo Angelidou (Photography), Kyriakos Tsiftsopoulos (video).
The work titled “FA®THER_ERRATIC PATTERNS. By FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR„ is assembled and unfolds through five different artistic media: (poetic) text, sculptural installation, performance, video and music. These media interweave and interrelate, both spatially and conceptually, to produce a performative video installation.
The work “FA®THER_ERRATIC PATTERNS. By FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR„ treats the concepts of return and of language as a linguistic and bodily topological process of recurring patterns.
The work constructs with humor and a critical edge a particular narrative in which are involved in an interactive capacity 20 bolts of fabric, a clothing export company, a family, a debt, 500 Art Bonds, two or three texts, voice, rhythm, the audience and the artist herself.
Materials: 20 bolts of fabric, text woven into fabric, video, music.
As of 2015, via a nexus of communicating works, Vassiliea Stylianidou evolves and constructs FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR. FOR AN ANONYMOUS FUGITIVE AUTHOR (she, he, it). This author who/which is not one.
Gender: fugitive, genre: fugitive, trope: fugitive change.

a project conceived by Associazione 22:37, P67 Gallery Berlin.
May 7 - 20, 2016. P67 Gallery, Pfalzburgerstraße 67, 10719 Berlin.
Out of Place_an ongoing archive is a project conceived by Associazione 22:37 that began in 2013. This new phase of the project is initiated together with the newly formed Berlin-based association Peninsula.
The purpose of Out of Place is to create a temporary archive housing a broad overview of theoretical references and ideas about nomadism and its effects on the forms of contemporary art production. The core of our research is based on the idea that being out of place is a condition that causes a subject to continuously relocate himself or herself. This process leads to a movement that is fluid not only in space, but in time as well, a necessity for constructing the constantly changing meaning of our presence in a place.

tl_files/works/WORKS_R_US/WORKS_R_US_inst_8.jpg.WORK(S) R US BY THE FORMER COLLECTIVE FOR THE ERRATIC PRESENT_a collaborative project initiated by STUDIOvisits Berlin,
Platforms Project @ Art Athina, International Contemporary Art Fair Athens 2015.June 4– 7 2015 at Faliron Pavilion (TaeKwonDo Stadium), Athens GR. Stand P21.
"WORK(S) R US BY THE FORMER COLLECTIVE FOR THE ERRATIC PRESENT" is a collaborative project with collective inquiries and interventions initiated by STUDIOvisits Berlin.
With writers, artists, performers, paraphrasers, paradoxographers: Antonis Antoniou, Hypatia Vourloumis, Ezgi Kilincaslan, Panos Kompatsiaris, Panos Mattheou,  Funda Özgünaydin, Marios Chatziprokopiou, Chryssa Tsampazi, Vassiliea Stylianidou.
"WORK(S) R US BY THE FORMER COLLECTIVE FOR THE ERRATIC PRESENT" is a FOTO-ROMANZO-MANIFESTO (picture-essay) in progress on the difficult relationship between artistic work and economic politics (reality).
The different languages that reconstitute the text of FOTOROMANZO-MANIFESTO reflect a conflictual coexistence of the "local" with the "foreign", of that which "is-our-own" with that which "has-been-appropriated", of "togetherness" with the "each-one-for-himself", of "for-the-duration" with "in-retrospect", of "artistic jargon" with the "ever-present Other".
The reader of the FOTOROMANZO-MANIFESTO possibly comes face to face with elements foreign to the reading of the text. S/he is thus called upon to find recourse to different means of translating those foreign elements.
In the course of the project, the artists came face to face with factors foreign to the artistic process. Therefore, they too had to find recourse to other methods and practices of translating the external input as well as of importing it into the field of artistic production.
So how is reading realised?
How is the artistic process actuated?
Is it a production we are dealing with or is it all artistic process?
Is it all text?
Is it all work?
Or have we been overtaken by algorithmic exhaustion?
Or are we faced with a dried out reality underneath the unbearable sun?
All of those questions and many more are taken up in "WORK(S) R US BY THE FORMER COLLECTIVE FOR THE ERRATIC PRESENT" in a way that is ironic, self-mocking, wearily battle-ready, extroverted and restrained, critical poetical naturally! AND ABOVE ALL, ONGOING!
The project employs visual- and living-labour material from the project with the title „Let´s Collective  Mor(e)rning for Us - AΠΕΡΓΙΑΣ ΕΡΓΟΝ“ which took place in Molyvos, Lesvos GR in June 2014 (curated by STUDIOvisits Berlin and organised by Christina Sgouromyti with the support of the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Community of Molyvos).
The Platforms Project @ Art Athina was started in 2013 with the aim of charting the artistic actions produced by collective initiatives of artists who decide to join forces in seeking solutions to art matters through what is known as platforms. Organisation and coordination by Artemis Potamianou.

…do delay,
a project curated by pick nick, an independent art and research collective, based in Cyprus.
…do delay is an act of loitering around the city with a portable projector and a collection of (art) videos. It is a walking improvisation that inserts ephemeral reveries of moving images in public spaces of Nicosia by suggesting open relations between what we select to screen and what we encounter around us. Not having in mind any predetermined routes or sites, our walks and screenings arise in a spur of a moment to tend to temporary layers of the city’s changing settings. delay is, also, an impulse to be glimpsed at as something that interrupts the everyday transaction of prescribed attention(s). In this sense, our screenings work like doodles, those, almost, unconscious sketches drawn while daydreaming or losing interest in that particular “authorized” moment. They appear unexpectedly on walls and surfaces in Nicosia, while people’s attention is otherwise occupied. Hence, we temporarily engage with perceptions that slip through normalized and normalizing ways of seeing.
Participating artists: Ivan Argote, Anna Lascari, Conny Karlsson Lundgren, Zohra Opoku, Vassiliea Stylianidou, Marie Zolamian. delay  will occur twice a week for four weeks from October onwards as part of the exhibition project, Treasure Island, at the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, Nicosia (CY).

The group show dotLand, which opens Friday, September 26, marks the debut of Peninsula, an interdisciplinary platform dedicated to developing a dialog with Berlin's international artistic and cultural community.
Peninsula is a group of artists, largely Italian, who have settled in Berlin during the last decade that seeks to foster a confrontation with the moment at hand by engaging architects, writers, musicians and all those who operate within the cultural sector. Peninsula takes its cue from the concept of Third Culture as a Third Space. It is an idea of culture constantly reconstituting and rewriting itself beyond geopolitical boundaries.

.Let´s Collective Mor(e)ning For Us - AΠΕΡΓΙΑΣ ΕΡΓΟΝ

A collective laboratorium in the public space of Mithymna, Lesvos, that explores the possibility of re-constructing the social body through a series of performative creative LABOUR STRIKES.
July 16 to July 24, 2014, Molyvos (Mithymna), Lesvos, Greece.
Curated by STUDIOvisits, Berlin.
Participants: Johanna Bruckner, Panos Mattheou, Funda Özgünaydin, Vassiliea Stylianidou, Marios Chatziprokopiou, Antonis Antoniou, Chryssa Tsampazi, Christina Sgouromiti, Hypatia Vourloumis, Panos Kompatsiaris, Achilleas Sourlas, Andrea Lange, Lorenz Erdmann, Christos Chrissopoulos, Eirini Avramopoulou, Luce deLire.
Let´s re-define our artistic practice as Labour Strike.
Let´s re- define Labour Strike as Labour Strike Labour.
Since our labour fragments us then let our Labour Strike Labour unite us!
Starting July 16, 2014, the public space of the small village of Mithymna, Lesvos will be turned for a week into an open laboratorium.
A group of ten artists from Greece, Germany and Turkey, working with the residents of Mithymna in collaboration with drama therapist Erene Kaptani, will develop a series of performances and performative installations inspired on the one hand by the happenings of the 60s and, on the other, by the tradition of the ‘bouloukia’ (street theater / small mobs) through the greek provinces and the “Horde of the Bashi-bazouk”, a satirical troupe which operated in the island of Lesvos at the beginning of the 20th century.
The process of the project «Let´s Collective Morening For Us - AΠΕΡΓΙΑΣ ΕΡΓΟΝ (LABOUR STRIKE LABOUR)» starts in Berlin and Athens. The artist Vassiliea Stylianidou (STUDIOvisits, Berlin) posits as the starting point of the undertaking her poetic text-work entitled «Let´s start with the Letter Shhhhh», which deals with the relation between body, labour and public space. Six writers and theorists receive this text and are invited to send back a text of their own in the form of a keynote lecture. Three musicians receive the same text and are invited to respond with a music piece.
Using as a starting point the texts and music pieces made available by the writers and composers, the group of ten artists in collaboration with the local community of Mithymna and the drama therapist Erene Kaptani will be investigating a number of relevant contemporary issues dealing with the relationship between body, labour, labour strike, desire, (possible and impossible) communities and public space

Dive and Run at freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL/MuseumsQuartier Wien. Curated by Matthias Deumlich.
OPENING of the exhibition: March 6th, 19:00
Location: freiraum quartier21 INTERNATIONAL/MuseumsQuartier Wien
Date: Mar 7 to Apr 24, Tue to Sun, 13:00-19:00
"Dive and Run" is the paradoxical title of a multimedia art exhibition conceived by German artist and curator Matthias Deumlich. The contradictory image of diving and running is meant to express the need to slow down and reflect in the midst of all the fast-paced world surrounding us.
Featuring works by eleven artists, including Ingeborg Lüscher, Alexandra Ranner, Costantino Ciervo, Edgar Leciejewski, and Ingolf Keiner, the show take a critical, poetical, humorous, and ironic look at existential questions and problems of our time. Works on view include the video "Meta-Atem: Über Inspiration und Exspiration" by Timm Ulrichs, in which the artist finds a poignant image for the tragic fact that life always means successively working on its dissipation and disappearance.
In the video "Let's make it compact," Vassiliea Stylianidou ironizes the usual approach of branding and applies it to a place and its landscape, condensing them to a logo and an object that she promotes as an expression of perfect commercial aestheticism. The subtext inspires us to think about the form of existence and quality of life.
As part of the quartier21/MQ Artist-in-Residence program, Una Szeemann and Bohdan Stehlik produced a work specially conceived for the exhibition on the topic "Terra Nullius - no man's land."
Robert Jacobsen's "drum-cymbal-mobile" rotates above it all, floating almost. A sound object with a little fan, it represents the concept of delay in a very direct way. A gentle tapping on the cymbal and big drum communicates across the space with another sound video object by Jacobsen.
The program accompanying the exhibition includes a reading with actor and director Lore Stefanek, who is currently producing a play at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, and a workshop for children led by Matthias Deumlich.

berlinerpool invites Vassiliea Stylianidou, a Greek artist based in Berlin, to present her newest projects, which implement a method of personal archiving and collecting through collaboration with artists, curators and theoreticians. For Vassiliea Stylianidou the artistic process involves a constant renegotiation of public and private history as well as public and private spaces. Stylianidou´s work deals with the limits inherent in systems of order and discipline such as architecture, nature, family, power, language and collectivity.
During her presentation Vassiliea Stylianidou will introduce her three recent projects:
FROM SCRATCH_a collective text_always from scratch, STUDIOvisits and HOLIDAYS IN GREECE.
After the presentation, a discussion with the audience will be opened up around the notions of collectivity, temporality and emergency. Possibilities of collaborations among cultural workers in Berlin and in Greece will also be explored. Greek participants of the projects FROM SCRATCH and HOLIDAYS IN GREECE will be present.
FROM SCRATCH_a collective text_always from scratch is a collaborative project initiated by Vassiliea Stylianidou. An initial text consisting of beginnings of scenarios for collectivity written by Vassiliea Stylianidou have been distributed by email to nine artists and theoreticians with the invitation to continue from whatever point in the text interests them, free to use any style they wish. When their individual contributions to the text are completed, they are invited to send all the texts to three people of their choice, inviting them to participate in the project on the basis of the above instructions.
STUDIOvisits means STUDIO(to the power of)visits, the artist´s studio –both physical and conceptual- that visits… STUDIOvisits is a project of encounters taken in random intervals between artists, theorists, architects and the public. STUDIOvisits´ vehicles are concepts, texts, objects, ideas and processes moving/migrating/translating around in reciprocal directions. STUDIOvisits´ itineraries are translocal. STUDIOvisits' desire is to transfer, postpone and prolong the processes of reflection upon concepts and objects that surround and construct the so-called artwork. STUDIOvisits is a thought- and praxis-based artistic enterprise that aims to overcome the reduction of the artwork to a mere commodity that follows the laws of the (art) market.
The frame of HOLIDAYS IN GREECE is two-folded:
_ an installation was set up with works that create multiple narrations; a network of associations and interconnections
_within the installation, artists, theorists, poets and the general public are invited to send and/or perform a statement: an extended notion of a performative text that is related to the greek/european debt crisis.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE´s starting point is the wish to understand what we cannot so far understand. HOLIDAYS IN GREECE builds up a stage for multiple voices to be heard, so that impossible liaisons, associations and alliances may be discovered or created, within the condition of the current debt crisis.
HOLIDAYS IN GREECE explores the meaning of a possible symbolic profit of the debt.

The Symptom 3: To the limits of togetherness,
Old Hospital, Amfisa, GR. Curated by Kostis Stafylakis. Production: The Symptom Projects.
Participating artists: Omada Filopapou, Jannis Theodoropoulos, Vassiliea Stylianidou, Vassilis Vlastaras, Maria Glyka, Jannis Grigoriadis, Jannis Isidorou, Giorgos Gyparakis, Despina Meimaroglou, Mary Zygouri, Maria Paschalidou, Anna Lascari, Dimitris Dokatzis, Poka Yio, Jannis Skaltsas, Jannis Sinioroglou, Tasos Papatsoris, De-Regulators (Panos Kompatsiaris / Hypatia Vourloumis / Marios Chatziprokopiou / Mary Zygouri)

The work FROM SCRATCH_a collective text_always for scratch is twofold. One part of the work comprises an installation in the physical exhibition space in Amfissa, GR. The installation is made up of 5,000 photocopies of a text with beginnings of scenarios for collectivity, 5 black metal electric fans which are switched on, the air current generated by the fans, a video projection and imaginary sound. The second aspect of the work is the collective process of continuing the elaboration/"construction" of this text.
The collective process of continuation/"construction" of this text takes place in the virtual space of a blog on the internet. It is an operation whose overall control does not rest with any single agent. The artist and theorists participating in the collaborative construction of the text are -so far: Hakan Topal, Susane Bosch, Hypatia Vourloumis, Sibylle Hofter, Panos Kompatsiaris, Hariklia Haris, Efrosini Protopapa, Berkay Tuncay, Tatjana Fell, Ilgin Seymen, Julie Miller, Alice Burns, Christine Woditschka, Marta Ferretti, Michalangelo Corsaro.
_a pile of about 5,000 sheets on which are printed the texts with the beginnings of possible scenarios of collectivity.
_five black metalic electric fans on stands, placed around the pile of the 5,000 sheets.
The air current swirls the pages-the texts.
The pages are scattered.
The viewers are invited to pick up the pages off the floor or grab them out of the air, read them and place them on the pile with the blank pages. Any viewer who wishes to, could intervene in the text. Sound will work as a promise.
